Great Places To See Live Music

No arguing with Kevin from over at Pandora who raves about the wonder that is Red Rocks Ampitheater. Naturally beautiful and acoustically perfect, Red Rocks is certainly my favorite place to see a concert – and I have seen a concert or two (hundred) in my day.

My first Red Rocks experience was I believe in 1982 when I had the great fortune to see Steve Ray Vaughan in one of the oddest triple bills I have heard, he was followed by TalkTalk and then Berlin (unfortunately, the guy who took me was with his niece who wanted to see Berlin – or we likely would have left after SRV)

Over the years I have had the pleasure of also seeing Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt, The Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule, among others, and there really isn’t any place like it.

I know I mentioned Red Rocks in my Colorado post but this video reminded me of just how amazing this place is – so with that I am elevating Red Rocks to something for which I am thankful – not only for the physical place but for the wonderful and amazing musical moments and memories that I have experienced there.

  1. Its also a good place to work your quads. I’ve hiked that stairway behind you in the picture from top to bottom, to get a Big Head Todd T-Shirt for my wife. What a Hike!

It is a great place, I really want to go up there during the day sometime.

    • Yeah – it sure is. The first time I was there I was a kid and I remember running up and down those stairs, now I get winded just thinking about that.

  2. That looks like such an amazing place to see a show! I’ve seen my share of concerts, and the venue and the crowd are almost as important a part of the evening as the band is.

    Gorgeous photo.

I found your page and your blog over at NaBlahBlahBlah. You’ve got a pretty cool thermos. I’m enjoying reading.

    • Thanks Gregg. It is such a cliche to say that you *need* to see a show at Red Rocks – but it really is true.

Venue and crowd are indeed critical. I avoid stadiums if at all possible, much preferring theater and club shows.

I appreciate the visit and the comment. I clicked through to your blog and while I have only had the chance to read your post about the miracle whip, I did subscribe and will certainly be back. Very enjoyable.
