Once again inspired by Nat at
Mini-Obs, here is the next in
my series of Build Your Own Best Of lists.
The idea - Pick one of your favorite bands / artists and list 10-15 songs by that band / artist to compile your own best of compilation.
My first victim was Led Zeppelin but today we feature The Rolling Stones.
I was just going to post the tracklist from Exile on Main Street as that is the only Stones album one really needs, but I figured I would try to be a bit more open minded. So here goes -
The Best of The Rolling Stones as compiled by me:
** I've included the albums that they appear on so you can give them a twirl if you are so inclined**
2000 Light Years From Home - Their Satanic Majesties Request
Can't You Hear Me Knocking - Sticky Fingers
Dead Flowers - Sticky Fingers
Hand of Fate - Black And Blue
Love In Vain - Let It Bleed
Loving Cup - Exile On Main Street
Moonlight Mile - Sticky Fingers
No Expectations - Beggars Banquet
Shine A Light - Exile On Main Street
Sweet Virginia - Exile On Main Street
Tops - Tattoo You
Tumbling Dice - Exile on Main Street
Worried About You - Tattoo You
Wow - what a great collection of tunes. I've set up a playlist in my (soon to be closing) Yahoo Unlimited for future listening.

And if you're a Stones fan and want to hear some other good tunes, check out Mick Taylor's self titled debut from 1979. It's obvious from the above list that I find the records that he appeared on (Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile) to be the better of the bunch. His contributions aren't really recognized or acknowledged (or even credited) but it can't be a coincidence that his stint in the band fueled them on to their best work.
This is a fine collection, with some tasty guitar work.
A Stone's Throw from 2000 is also good listening, and if you are a web junkie you can find a good amount of live stuff floating around if you know where to look.
Enjoy!!
Agree with me? Think I'm an idiot? Go ahead and share in the comments - we'll talk.
Coming next week I am thinking Rush but if you have other suggestions, throw them in the comments as well.
Cheers!
SB
I am looking forward to your Rush list, though. I love me some Rush!
Sticky Fingers is a classic indeed - I would say Moonlight Mile is quite possibly the greatest song ever written.
I'm already working on the Rush list, at the very least I'm having fun doing the research.
Thanks as always for your comments.
