The meme mistress this week gives us:
Top 5 unique band/artist names
Aquarium Rescue Unit
A really great band fronted by Col. Bruce Hampton and featuring the outstanding Jimmy Herring on guitar and Oteil Burbridge (of Allman Brothers Band) on bass.
Box of Frogs
Formed in early 80s by former Yardbirds members, Box of Frogs put out a stellar debut followed by a not quite as good but still enjoyable follow up. Both albums feature an amazing cast of guest musicians including Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher and Steve Hackett. Back Where I Started got some airplay if I recall.
Grand Funk Railroad
Although pretty much always critically panned, I've always been a fan of GFR. You can keep "American Band" though.
Liquid Tension Experiment
Never been much of a Dream Theater fan but for some reason I like LTE - perhaps it is the inclusion of bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin. It's very prog metal like and the musicianship is astounding.
Toad The Wet Sprocket
Love this band. The name comes from a Monty Python thing. Check out Dulcinea if you need a place to start with them.

Tuesday Tunes: Week 65
I know it's not Tuesday. Why not use your imagination and just pretend it is.
The mission from our Music Memoirs friends this week:
A little something different.
I'm going to give you a list of drinks and you give me a song/album/artist that fits that particular drink:
Espresso: "Espresso Love" - Dire Straits
Wine: "Tastes Like Wine" - Gov't Mule
Beer: "Warm Beer & Cold Women" - Tom Waits
Milk: Milk & Honey (LP) - John Lennon / Yoko Ono
Water: "Gimme Some Water" - Eddie Money
Tea: "English Tea" - Paul McCartney
Cappuccino: The Cappuccino Kid - Not a song but the mysterious sleeve note writer for The Style Council.
Margarita: "Margarita" - Traveling Wilburys
OK - I know it's not much of a post but I wanted you to know that haven't forgotten either of my loyal readers.
What would you have picked? No need to mention margaritaville...
Cheers!

From The Inner Groove - aka The Neglected Thermos
Happy New Year Everyone!! Boy - it's been a while hasn't it.
Here is what I should have been writing about for the last couple of weeks:
Clark (of Clark's Picks) profiles Danny Gatton, one of the great unsung guitar greats.
WebWorkerDaily makes the PCMag Top 100 Blog List. I'd like to think I helped that happen... Grats to my teammates and the other GigaOm blogs also honored.
Eclecticity was nice enough to include me in a list of his fave digital places . I'm honored to be included in a group with such sites as The Execupundit, Lifehacker, Nicholas Bate, Seth Godin and Hugh MacLeod.
Ross from RockMusicDaily posts his photos from the Gov't Mule NYE Run shows he attended - Dec 30 and 31. Very cool - how I wish we could have been there.
Yesterday Gina Trapani of Lifehacker announced she is stepping down as editor. Gina is sort of a hero of mine, and her lifehacks were an inspiration for me when starting and developing my business. I wish her the best.
Speaking of Lifehackers - Benjamin Franklin seemed to have his life in order.
More to come.
