My wonderful wife Gina recently posted her
100 Things About Moi and even though we have been together for 16 years, I learned quite a bit about her from it. Thinking that it might be interesting for others to have the chance to learn some obscure things about me, I decided to copy the idea here for My Thermos. Credit also goes out to our new friends
Elle and
Cardiogirl for the inspiration.
And because I needed to add one for my clever play on words title to be accurate, here are 101 things I think are interesting about me:
- I am creating this list in Excel so I don't have to keep count
- I nearly got held back in Kindergarten because I wasn't reading
- In 5th grade I finished the 6th grade reading curriculum and had to have a special language and spelling program
- I have seen the movie Fletch over 200 times
- I am the youngest of 3 boys
- I used to not get along with my brothers but we're ok now
- I had knee surgery in 1990
- I spent the 10th year Anniversary of the death of John Lennon in Central Park with a couple hundred of my closest friends
- I love breakfast foods
- Chicken Kiev is quite possibly the world's most perfect food
- I have become disillusioned with the show "lost" but still can't stop watching
- I am much better on the air guitar than I am on a real one
- I had a guitar custom built for me by these folks
- It took me almost 3 months to pick it out
- I have multiple tattoos
- People always seem surprised to find that out
- I have spent New Years Eve in New York several times
- None of them have ever been in Times Square (that is madness)
- I believe I read remarkably fast
- My first job was at K-Mart, or it may have been at Oak Drugs
- I guess I don't remember what my first job was
- I used to want to be a photographer
- My uncle and I drank a shot of Jack Daniels to celebrate my 16th birthday
- I hope the statute of limitations for the above has run out
- I went to College in Colorado
- I had the same roommate 3 of my 4 years in college
- We haven't spoken since
- My hair back then was "Carlos Santana circa 1975" long
- Now I can't go more than 4 weeks or so between haircuts without thinking my hair is too long
- I only went to 1 sporting event in those 4 years - Go …. um … Team
- I have absolutely no patience for shopping of any kind
- This is especially true for clothes shopping. If I don't find something in 4 minutes I get frustrated and need to leave
- I once had migraine headaches for a stretch of 11 months
- I had a spinal tap to find out what was causing them
- I stopped having them when I quit my job
- The smell of bananas makes me nauseous
- I used to be a really picky eater
- I am surprised my parents didn't kill me over it
- I am still a little finicky but nowhere near what I used to be
- I have nearly 1500 vinyl LP records
- I don't listen to them often enough
- One of my goals is to catalog them into a master music database
- I started to go gray in my twenties
- My brothers and father are all balding, so I'm ok with the gray
- Every year I buy 3 boxes of girl scout cookies from my niece
- Every year I end up throwing one of them away
- I think I would rather go blind than deaf
- I tend to root for the underdog
- I am just slightly under six feet tall
- I thought about skipping 50-60 to see if anyone would notice
- I learned a lot from my father, grandfathers, and great grandfathers
even though I may not have realized it was happening at the time - Religion has never played a big part in my life
- Morality and ethics have
- Other than my wedding ring, I don't wear any jewelry
- I still have my very first computer - it was an Atari 800
- I love cheese - if I ever turned out to be lactose intolerant I think I would just die
- I am a pizza purist - crust, sauce, cheese - what else could you possibly need
- I am self employed and love it - although I really miss group health insurance
- I think Colorado is the most perfect place on earth
- I really have very little desire to drink alcohol of any sort any more
- In college I spent a lot of time at a brew pub called Coopersmith's
- If I was still near Coopersmiths and their Horsetooth Stout that thing I said about no alcohol would not be true
- I can't stand doing yard work of any type - if it was up to me we would pave the backyard
- I was never a big participant in extra-curricular activities at school
- I have been to more concerts than I can remember
- I have tried to save every ticket stub but I think I have lost some over the years
- I prefer Letterman to Leno
- I will never have a house without cats if I have anything to say about it
- When I was about 6 I hung on to the handle on the bottom of a garage door while it was going up to "see where it goes"
- It wasn't my smartest move as I then realized I was a good 6 feet off the ground and hanging from a handle on the bottom of a garage door
- The only thing that makes winter bearable is the homemade hot cocoa that Gina makes for me
- I have a pretty good collection of Beatles related memorabilia
- I would love to have a full wall of bookshelves in one room in my house - floor to ceiling
- I have multiple quotes by Frank Zappa hanging on the wall in my office
- I prefer Pinball to Video Games
- I wish the saying "You reap what you sow" was really true
- I name the computers on my network after guitar manufacturers
- I named my first cat after Christie Brinkley
- I wanted to name me and Gina's first 2 cats Difford and Tilbrook of Squeeze fame
- We ended up naming them Abbey and Penny
- I prefer The Beatles over The Rolling Stones
- I just thought of the title for this post - I think it is very clever
- I hardly ever drink soft-drinks (pop or soda) anymore
- A desk needs a good stapler to be complete - even if I never really use it
- I think music and lyrics are equally important
- I wore glasses from the age of 5 until I was 13
- I wear them again now but only because I was getting headaches from staring at the computer so long
- When I was about 14 I went to Italy and saw amazing art and museums
- I also ran away for a couple of hours
- I really can't believe my parent's didn't kill me over that
- My first car was a hand-me-down Cutlass Supreme
- I used to be very good at Cribbage
- If it was up to me I would probably never bother to hang up my coat
- I am neither a pot or a pan (Gina will understand this one)
- I really have a hard time believing that two of The Beatles are dead (Help! is on tv as I write this - I am very sad)
- I once played darts with Spencer Davis and while I can't prove it, I think he may have cheated
- One of my favorite things to do is to browse through albums in a used record store
- I seem to be unusually lucky at winning contests and drawings
- Unfortunately, this luck doesn't seem to apply to the lottery
- My favorite thing to call someone out of anger is Asshat
- As much as I struggled to come up with this many, I am now finding myself needing to edit / leave some things off
So there you have it. And if you managed to actually read the whole thing - in the comments be sure to let me know which item was the most interesting or surprising.
I've done the garage door thing, too. But the visual you created was absolutely hilarious, Scott. Not a wasted word in either of those two sentences. Great great stuff.
Plenty of others to chuckle at along the way, too. (Nos. 20/21, 30, 62...to name a few.) Makes me a bit eager to tackle my own "100 Things" post someday, as I haven't done one before. I'll probably make it 101, in your honor.
#20 - It was Oak Drugs and you were the delivery man.
#23 - Wait until I get my hands on my brother!!
#30 - We went to the CSU Homecoming game and I think it was the only one they won that year.
#36 - If you are going to be nauseous you need to spell it right or I will get nauseous
#37- Thank goodness for Frosted Flakes
#69- Yes it's pretty funny now but I almost had a heart attack then
#90- I took you and your brothers to Italy and I almost killed you for that stunt in a strange country.
Now that I have fully embarassed you I will sign off.
Mom
#23 - oops
#30 - yep, one game in 4 years
#36 - oops - fixed - although I swear I had looked it up and fixed it already.
#37 - indeed
#69 - whee!!
#70 - I really didn't go that far...

Isn't it funny that once you get going there are so many other things to add? Asshat.
Love that!
p.s. I noticed a glaring absence of floss.
It is a weird process, huh. I had to leave some stuff off of mine because I wound up writing half a post telling the story. Set aside for another day.
This is a daunting task - but really fun once you get into it - and great to go back and read with fresh eyes.

HEY, I also prefer Letterman, and am a longtime fan (from way back when he had a morning show!)
I get migraines, too, and have since I was a kid. They are
less severe and frequent now, but they still SUCK!
Zappa rules, even though I'm sure we could never convince
Tipper Gore of that!
I'll read these again after I'm home from vacation.
I don't remember watching the morning show but I know I was an early fan of the late night show - especially the band. Most Dangerous indeed.
I miss FZ - A sharp wit for sure. I wonder what he would say about the current political climate..
and Migraines are the suckiest of suck - I feel so bad for those that have them, and grateful that mine subsided.
Thanks, as always, for your comments

And thanks for dropping by My Den.
Best.
I have stopped thinking about what might be happening, I pay no attention to theories of others, I just want it to be over.
