101 Proclamations

img dalmatianMy wonderful wife Gina recently posted her 100 Things About Moi and even though we have been together for 16 years, I learned quite a bit about her from it. Thinking that it might be interesting for others to have the chance to learn some obscure things about me, I decided to copy the idea here for My Thermos. Credit also goes out to our new friends Elle and Cardiogirl for the inspiration.

And because I needed to add one for my clever play on words title to be accurate, here are 101 things I think are interesting about me:

  1. I am creating this list in Excel so I don’t have to keep count
  2. I nearly got held back in Kindergarten because I wasn’t reading
  3. In 5th grade I finished the 6th grade reading curriculum and had to have a special language and spelling program
  4. I have seen the movie Fletch over 200 times
  5. I am the youngest of 3 boys
  6. I used to not get along with my brothers but we’re ok now
  7. I had knee surgery in 1990
  8. I spent the 10th year Anniversary of the death of John Lennon in Central Park with a couple hundred of my closest friends
  9. I love breakfast foods
  10. Chicken Kiev is quite possibly the world’s most perfect food
  11. I have become disillusioned with the show "lost" but still can’t stop watching
  12. I am much better on the air guitar than I am on a real one
  13. I had a guitar custom built for me by these folks
  14. It took me almost 3 months to pick it out
  15. I have multiple tattoos
  16. People always seem surprised to find that out
  17. I have spent New Years Eve in New York several times
  18. None of them have ever been in Times Square (that is madness)
  19. I believe I read remarkably fast
  20. My first job was at K-Mart, or it may have been at Oak Drugs
  21. I guess I don’t remember what my first job was
  22. I used to want to be a photographer
  23. My uncle and I drank a shot of Jack Daniels to celebrate my 16th birthday
  24. I hope the statute of limitations for the above has run out
  25. I went to College in Colorado
  26. I had the same roommate 3 of my 4 years in college
  27. We haven’t spoken since
  28. My hair back then was "Carlos Santana circa 1975" long

  30. I only went to 1 sporting event in those 4 years – Go …. um … Team
  31. I have absolutely no patience for shopping of any kind
  32. This is especially true for clothes shopping. If I don’t find something in 4 minutes I get frustrated and need to leave

  46. Every year I end up throwing one of them away
  47. I think I would rather go blind than deaf

  68. I will never have a house without cats if I have anything to say about it
  69. When I was about 6 I hung on to the handle on the bottom of a garage door while it was going up to "see where it goes"
  70. It wasn’t my smartest move as I then realized I was a good 6 feet off the ground and hanging from a handle on the bottom of a garage door

  84. A desk needs a good stapler to be complete – even if I never really use it
  85. I think music and lyrics are equally important

  94. I am neither a pot or a pan (Gina will understand this one)
  95. I really have a hard time believing that two of The Beatles are dead (Help! is on tv as I write this – I am very sad)
  96. I once played darts with Spencer Davis and while I can’t prove it, I think he may have cheated
  97. One of my favorite things to do is to browse through albums in a used record store
  98. I seem to be unusually lucky at winning contests and drawings
  99. Unfortunately, this luck doesn’t seem to apply to the lottery
  100. My favorite thing to call someone out of anger is Asshat
  101. As much as I struggled to come up with this many, I am now finding myself needing to edit / leave some things off

So there you have it. And if you managed to actually read the whole thing – in the comments be sure to let me know which item was the most interesting or surprising.

    Nos. 69 and 70 made me laugh…out loud…for minutes!!

I’ve done the garage door thing, too. But the visual you created was absolutely hilarious, Scott. Not a wasted word in either of those two sentences. Great great stuff.

Plenty of others to chuckle at along the way, too. (Nos. 20/21, 30, 62…to name a few.) Makes me a bit eager to tackle my own “100 Things” post someday, as I haven’t done one before. I’ll probably make it 101, in your honor.

  2. Mom says:

What a great collection. If I may, I would like to contribute a few comments, thoughts, additions and corrections.
#20 – It was Oak Drugs and you were the delivery man.
#23 – Wait until I get my hands on my brother!!
#30 – We went to the CSU Homecoming game and I think it was the only one they won that year.
#36 – If you are going to be nauseous you need to spell it right or I will get nauseous
#37- Thank goodness for Frosted Flakes
#69- Yes it’s pretty funny now but I almost had a heart attack then
#90- I took you and your brothers to Italy and I almost killed you for that stunt in a strange country.
Now that I have fully embarassed you I will sign off.

    • Scott says:

#20 – I remember it, I just wasn’t sure if that was before or after Kmart
      #23 – oops
#30 – yep, one game in 4 years
#36 – oops – fixed – although I swear I had looked it up and fixed it already.
      #37 – indeed
      #69 – whee!!
      #70 – I really didn’t go that far…

  3. cardiogirl says:

    I, too, loved 69 and 70.

Isn’t it funny that once you get going there are so many other things to add? Asshat.

    Love that!

p.s. I noticed a glaring absence of floss.

  4. Elle says:

Thank you for an outstanding 101. I just knew you were a Beatles kind of guy.
It is a weird process, huh. I had to leave some stuff off of mine because I wound up writing half a post telling the story. Set aside for another day.

  5. KC TAN says:

#64, #65, #75 points are interesting. Most of the points are interesting so that I can not short it out how I will figure out. But after all this is nice expression.

  6. Scott says:

Thanks for the comments all – the garage door incident, while not one of my best moments, is a great story – and is actually a great example of “me”.

This is a daunting task – but really fun once you get into it – and great to go back and read with fresh eyes.

  7. nat says:

I always love reading these things.

HEY, I also prefer Letterman, and am a longtime fan (from way back when he had a morning show!)

I get migraines, too, and have since I was a kid. They are
less severe and frequent now, but they still SUCK!

Zappa rules, even though I’m sure we could never convince
    Tipper Gore of that!

I’ll read these again after I’m home from vacation.

    • Scott says:

Hey Nat – hope you had a nice trip.

I don’t remember watching the morning show but I know I was an early fan of the late night show – especially the band. Most Dangerous indeed.

I miss FZ – A sharp wit for sure. I wonder what he would say about the current political climate..

and Migraines are the suckiest of suck – I feel so bad for those that have them, and grateful that mine subsided.

Thanks, as always, for your comments

  8. TripTheLady says:

i took the plunge and posted 102 things about me ;)

  9. The whole list was fun to read but when I saw the comments by your mother I laughed out loud.

    • Scott says:

Yeah – sometimes I forget that she reads this – but it makes things interesting for sure, and she could have embarrassed me quite a bit worse than she did really…

Thanks so much for the visit and the comment

  10. Dan says:

No.11 especially struck a chord with me and I am as disillusioned plus decisively confused and lost. Yet, I can’t stop watching.

And thanks for dropping by My Den.
    Best.

    • Scott says:

Exactly – I’ve invested too much time into it already to abandon it, but it is almost infuriating to watch.

I have stopped thinking about what might be happening, I pay no attention to theories of others, I just want it to be over.

  11. My Thermos says:

Normally on Friday I try to do the Top 5 on Friday via Music Memoirs, but this week it’s about 80′s music videos. Since I believe that video did indeed kill the radio star, I’m going to pass. I might still do the Tuesday Tunes word association as those a
