I am moving my office and was calling to transfer my phone service to the new location and those were the words I heard from the very nice and friendly AT&T representative I spoke to earlier today. She put in the change order and said moving the phone line was not an issue but then she said that she needed to verify that the high speed internet access was available at the new location....
yes I'll hold,

yes
no problem
what?
Your system says that high speed internet is not available in the my new location?
I admittedly was a bit shocked. I know that there are restrictions and limitations on how far you can move your phone due to exchange differences and such. I really wasn't even worried about losing the number as I have the phone service strictly to get the broadband access I need to run my Vonage line.
But even that shouldn't have been an issue as my new office is directly across the hall from my current location, in the same building (but now with window goodness.)
That's right - apparently at&t is unable to place the order for my internet service in this location because their system says that it won't work, even though it is obvious that it will. They need to place a request for a special circumstances override before they can send someone out to - well actually they really don't need to do anything. The line is already coming into the building, I can move the line at the junction box to point to the new wall jack.
As I said, the rep at at&t was very nice and very helpful and is doing all that she can do to expedite my request. She understands the ridiculousness of it all as well if not more than I do. It's just ridiculous that we both have to jump through all of these hoops to resolve something that shouldn't even be an issue to begin with.
What sort of hurdles have you all faced when trying to do a seemingly simple thing?
Cheers!

Way back in 2001, yes I know many years ago, I got all excited when I looked at Charter Cable's site and it said their services were available in my area. So I called to make sure and they said yes-the appointment was set, the guys come out only to discover I was 500 yards away from the cut-off point, 500 freaking yards and I couldn't get broadband. I didn't have it until I moved 10 miles away-to the big 'ol city and where I live now didn't get broadband until 2003. How sad is that?

I haven't used dial up in over 10 years, I think I would give up the internet if that was really my only choice.

I don't see much value in screaming at the front line support people. They aren't responsible for the issue and are really going to set the stage for whether my problem gets resolved or not.
Angering them sure isn't going to help me out in any way. Plus, it's just rude and I'm a really nice guy.
I am pleased to report that they were able to do the override and my service is set to be moved early next week. I did get the return call I was promised and everything got resolved.
That's good Customer Service.

Glad it came to a happy end, and they're getting here from there!
But I'd still love to hear some of your stories!!
